Insert moulding is an extension of the plastic injection moulding process which is often used to reduce the costs associated with adding inserts as a secondary operation. In insert moulding, the insert, which may be made of metal or plastic, is placed into a custom-designed mould then plastic resin is injected around the insert and cooled.
